Schedule that will happen on the first day of the event, before opening. There will be two workshops and a debate that will discuss themes relevant to ecological knowledge. Each pre-event has a limited number of seats for which you can request free registration for up to two non-simultaneous pre-events. Entries must be made according to two modalities:

Entries in this category are done in an integrated way with the registration in the event as a whole. The choice for enrollment in some of the pre-events will be available at the time of registration at the event or later through access to the Attendee area. For those who have already signed up for the event, registration for the pre-event will also be available in the Attendee area. Pre-event registrations will be made at no additional cost

Brazilian initiatives for the integration and dissemination of ecological data:

towards the analysis and synthesis of ecological knowledge

In the era of e-Science, the promotion of analysis and synthesis in ecology is fundamental both for the advancement of knowledge and for subsidizing decision-making. Often heterogeneous in format, syntax and semantics, ecological data are the basis of much of the research in this field. The objective is to present some data integration and dissemination initiatives relevant to ecological science and to discuss the use of these databases in the analyzes and syntheses of the ecological knowledge. The presentations will take 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions. At the end of the presentations, a debate will be held.

Why communicate the results of scientific research? How to communicate with quality, credibility and critical sense? How to build new interfaces between scientists and journalists involved in the production and communication of Brazilian ecology? These are some of the issues that emerge in the interactions between ecological science and the media. To advance in these issues, we invite a team of experienced environmental journalists and scientists with practice in communicating their research results to society. The audience is invited to contribute with the debate

Amália holds a degree in Journalism from the School of Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo, is editor-founder of Revista Página22 and contributor to Globo publishing houses. Coordinated the Content and Mobilization Line of the Centro de Estudos em Sustentabilidade da FGV EAESP (FGVces). She was a columnist for Terra Magazine and worked for nine years in CartaCapital magazine, where she was a reporter (1996-1999) and editor of Economics (2000-2005), as well as a columnist in the social and environmental area (1998-2005). She also served as a reporter for the newspaper Gazeta Mercantil and as a communications adviser for the Associação Brasileira dos Analistas do Mercado de Capitais, Apimec. Received awards from Instituto Internacional de Pesquisa e Responsabilidade Socioambiental Chico Mendes, Abrelpe, Green Best, Journalists & Co. Award / HSBC, Ethos Institute, BM & FBovespa and Conservation International

Bernardo Esteves (Revista Piauí)

Bernardo is a journalist specialized in science, technology, environment and health with eighteen years of experience. Reporter for Piauí magazine since 2010, before that he was editor of Ciência Hoje Online and a reporter for Superinteressante magazine, and has collaborated with scientific publications in the United Kingdom, France and the United States. He is the author of the book "Domingo é Dia de Ciência", released in 2006 by Azougue. Graduated in Social Communication from UFMG, PhD in History of Sciences and Techniques and Epistemology from UFRJ

Daniele holds a degree in Journalism from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Specialist in Environmental Analysis and Land Management by the Escola Nacional de Ciências Estatísticas (ENCE/IBGE). Fabio Scarano (UFRJ e FBDS)

Fabio R. Scarano holds a Ph.D. in Ecology (University of St. Andrews, GB) and is a member of the Linnean Society of London. He is Professor of Ecology at UFRJ and Executive Director of FBDS. He has authored in the UN panels for the climate (IPCC) and biodiversity (IPBES). He served in CAPES-MEC (2005-2011), was Research Director of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden (2007-2009) and Senior Vice-President of the NGO Conservation International (2009-2015). Author of more than 100 scientific publications on biodiversity, climate change and sustainability. He was awarded by the Prêmio Jabuti for the “Biomas Brasileiros: Retratos de um País Plural” (2012) and “Mata Atlântica: Uma História do Futuro” (2014)

Giovana Girardi (Estadão)

Giovana Girardi has been an environment reporter for the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo since 2012 and author of the Ambiente-se blog. He has been in science and environmental journalism since 2001. In recent years, her focus has been on issues such as deforestation, loss of biodiversity, urban environment, pollution, environmental policy and climate change. She covered the last six UN climate conferences, including that of Paris in 2015, which established the Paris Accord, Rio + 20 and other international conferences. She was Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT (2014/2015). Prior to the current season in Estadão, she worked for Folha and Estadão, was editor-in-chief of Galileo magazine, assistant editor of Scientific American magazine and co-founder and editorial director of Unesp Ciência magazine

Marcelo Leite (Folha de São Paulo)

Marcelo Leite graduated in Journalism at USP in 1979. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University (1998) and Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan (2012). He is currently a special reporter for Science and Environment at Folha de S.Paulo, where he was also editor of Science, Opinion and International, as well as Ombudsman (1994 to 1996) and correspondent in Berlin (1990). He has a doctorate in Social Sciences at UNICAMP. His dissertation was published in 2007 by the Publishing House of UNESP under the title “Promesas do genoma”. He is the author of several basic books on science and the environment. He holds journalism prizes José Reis (2005), Esso / Exxon (2009 and 2015), José Alencar / CNI (2014 and 2015), Libero Badaró (2014) and WASH Media Award (2014). Finalist, in 2014, of the Exxon and Gabriel García Márquez / FNPI awards

Maria Guimarães (Revista Pesquisa Fapesp)

Graduated in Biology in the University of São Paulo, Maria Guimarães holds a PhD in animal behavior from the University of California, Berkeley. Following a need to broaden her look beyond a specialty, she took a specialization course in scientific journalism from the Laboratório de Estudos Avançados em Jornalismo (Labjor-Unicamp). She then, she became a journalist in Pesquisa FAPESP magazine: as an assistant science editor and currently editor of the site. She feels more comfortable in what involves evolution, ecology, plants and bugs. Thus, she received the Reportagem em Biodiversidade da Mata Atlântica awards, granted by SOS Mata Atlântica and Conservação Internacional do Brasil

Mauricio Tuffani (Direto da Ciência)

Mauricio Tuffani is editor of Direto da Ciência, a website dedicated to politics and the direction of science, the environment and higher education. He was the editor-in-chief of Scientific American Brasil, a reporter and editor of Ciência da Folha de S.Paulo, editor-in-chief of Galileo magazine, editorial director of Unesp Ciência magazine, executive editor of UNDP Brazil and United Nations portals in Brazil and a reviewer in the Estado de S. Paulo and Jornal da Tarde. He was responsible for the institutional communication of the Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo, the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) ando of the Instituto Florestal da Secretaria do Meio Ambiente of the Secretaria do Meio Ambiente, state of São Paulo

Rafael Loyola (UFG)

Rafael Loyola is a professor in the Department of Ecology at the Universidade Federal de Goiás. He is a member of the Academia Brasileira de Ciências and author of more than 120 scientific articles and 10 books, having trained more than 40 researchers at different levels in Brazil. He is director of the Laboratório de Biogeografia da Conservação that provides the brazilian government and NGOs with adequate scientific support for the elaboration of public environmental policies in Brazil. Rafael is also Editor of the Americas in the traditional journal Biological Conservation and invited columnist of the environmental journalism website, ((o)) eco. In his spare time, Rafael writes for a blog called Cientista Zen!

Blandina Viana (UFBA)

Blandina Viana is full professor at the Instituto de Biologia, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and Agronomic Engineering from Universidade de Brasília and a Master and PhD in Ecology from the Universidade de São Paulo. She held the position of Pro-Rector at UFBA. She acted as a specialist on the Plataforma Intergovernamental de Biodiversidade e Serviços Ecossistêmicos, coordinating one of the chapters of the Global Thematic Assessment on pollinators, pollination services and food production. The focus of her research is the conservation of pollinators and the service of pollination. She is interested in transdisciplinary studies aimed at developing communication strategies and interaction with society, promoting scientific education of citizens and changes in attitudes towards biodiversity and their role in ecosystem functioning

Germana Barata (Labjor/Unicamp)

Germana Barata is a researcher in scientific divulgation of the Laboratório de Estudos Avançados em Jornalismo (Labjor) of Unicamp. Graduated in biology and specializing in scientific journalism from Unicamp, Master and PhD in History of Science from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). She was executive editor of the scientific publications Ciência e Cultura and ComCiência - Labjor / Unicamp publications in partnership with the Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) - and coordinated activities to popularize science, among them the first edition of the Pint of Science in Campinas (SP, 2016). She is a member of the scientific board of the International PCST (Public Communication of Science and Technology) network and of the advisory council of the Associação Brasileira de Editores Científicos (ABEC). Among her areas of interest are the history of science and diseases, scientific communication and, more recently, alternative indicators of social impact of science (altmetria) and social networks

Gislene Ganade (UFRN)

Gislene Ganade holds a Ph.D. in Ecology (Imperial College London). She is a professor at the Ecology Department of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte and head of the Ecological Restoration Group. She has been researching and training students in Restoration Ecology in Brazilian ecosystems, such as Amazon Rain Forest, Subtropical Araucaria Forest, Restinga, Dunes, Mangroves and Caatinga in the last 20 years. Recently, she develops innovative technologies to combat desertification and improve restoration techniques in semi-arid lands in northeastern Brazil

Márcia Hirota (SOS Mata Atlântica)

Marcia Hirota is an environmentalist, master in information science at PUCCAMP, a specialist in information systems administration and database. Since 1990 she has been a member of the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation team and in 1994 he coordinated the Atlas dos Remanescentes Florestais da Mata Atlântica that monitors deforestation in the biome, developed in partnership with the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE). She has worked as Director of Knowledge Management and is currently the executive director of SOS Mata Atlântica, an NGO that has been working for the Atlantic Forest for 31 years, especially in the forest restoration, valuation of parks and reserves, clean water and protection of the sea
